Going Viral

Does anyone remember this video? It went viral back in 2009. It is a video of a little girl choosing to affirm all that she believed was good. What a breath of fresh air this is to watch even ten years later. What a change in perspective. Let’s put a pin in this for now- we will come back to it.

We do not stop. We don’t. Whether it is our bodies or our minds. We want more. To be better. To get better. To have better. Stress does not stop. It obstructs our thoughts. It robs us of the good in our lives. We cannot even enjoy things that are meant to give us rest because we. cannot. turn. off. our brains. It raids every corner of our conscience. When we accomplish one thing- we are immediately off to the next thing. Comparing our beginnings to someone else’s middle or end. Comparing our lives. Quite honestly, we cause ourselves to be ill. We are our own biggest faultfinders.

Mama. Wife. Woman. When you get the chance- or even right now. Whether that is before your kids are up or after they go down. Do me a favor. Lay flat on your back. Keep your phone in the other room. Lay still. Focus on your breathing. You hear that? It is your heart inside your chest. It is the sound of life entering your body through your nostrils. Focus. What are you currently succeeding at? Being more patient with your kids? Focusing on being more present? Intentionally seeking your husband? Being a better friend? Trying to respond to everybody’s needs? Day in and day out. Being someone’s….everything. Let your affirmations begin. I love my house, I love my husband. Keep going. Keep breathing. I love my kids, I love my friends. Push further. I love myself. I love my persistence, I love my drive. I love that I am alive today. I can do ‘anything good’. I love my heart, I love my tenacity and drive. I love my kindness, my work ethic, my body. My stretch marks, my legs that never stop. I love my mind and what I offer those around me.

Yes- there are social pressures all around us. More than any other generation in the history of the world. But girlfriend. You are consuming that. Why is it that we are consumed with more followers, yet have very few friends? Maybe the real fear we should be having is not going viral- but going viral. A virus. A virus within our bodies of not appreciating our children, our husbands, the lives we have, and hell, the LIFE that we have today. Because trust me. Others are not as lucky to live today and wish they could have. We are losing sight! We are losing time with the people in our lives choosing us while we chase for more. More followers, more acceptance, more exposure. Who is around you that you are hurting. Stop worrying about what everyone else has. Bury yourself in the beauty that is already yours. Don’t consume yourself with the virus. Don’t be worried about going viral- be worried about going viral. Be worried about your life passing you by while you watch everyone else live theirs. Adore your life. Appreciate the people choosing you and seeing your worth every day. Stop fighting for the attention and acceptance of others. Acknowledge the authenticity of your own life and what you are doing well. Be more consumed with being good for the people you love rather than what filter you use. And please, don’t go viral. We have enough clones out there. Mama- I want to see you.

Leave comments below about what you are doing great in your life. Wake up and do that same great thing again tomorrow, your own way.
